The
"Skylake Club" was the first OwnerGroups Company group,
formed by Steve Last in 1980. The house is situated just outside
Tahoe City on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Northern
California, an area of outstanding beauty and one of the
finest holiday areas in the world. Surrounded by the
peaks of the Sierra Nevada
mountains, which range up to 12,000 feet, and itself at
an elevation of over 6,000 feet, Lake Tahoe is over 200
square miles of crystal-clear water. Lake Tahoe is a
comfortable 4 hour drive from San Francisco, and is
easily reached by air from all other US gateways via
Reno, some 40 miles away.
The forested north shore of Lake Tahoe, where Skylake
Club's premises are located, has miles of sandy beaches
and is world-renowned as the 'millionaires' playground"
which is the major winter sports centre of the US west
coast.
Lake Tahoe's climate is superb all the year round at
Lake Tahoe, thanks to the 6200 foot elevation and the
proximity of the Nevada Desert. In Winter, four out of
every five days are clear and sunny, and average winter
daytime high temperatures are around 28 deg. F, with
overnight lows about 18 deg. F. Precipitation at Tahoe
is mostly snowfall averaging 18 feet per annum at Lake
level, whilst at Alpine Meadows, six miles from Skylake
Club's Tahoe city base, it reaches a staggering 37 feet
per year, enabling Alpine Meadows to claim one of the
longest Ski seasons in North America, from mid-November
to late May.
Facilities could not be bettered. With over a dozen
major Ski Resorts within a few miles, every level of
skiing is catered for, from complete beginner to Olympic
winner. There are more than 150 lifts at the various
resorts, the vast majority in an arc centred on Tahoe
City. Multi-area tickets are available, together with
special day rates at midweek, etc. The tremendous
variety of winter sports available, including
snowmobiles and cross-country skiing, makes Tahoe
particularly suitable for families and groups of
differing levels of experience, and the sparkling blue
Lake makes a marvellous backdrop for those who enjoy the
view as much as the run downhill.
In Summer there is an unmatched range of recreational
activities from climbing, walking and camping, fishing
and sailing to golf, gliding and riding. Year round,
there are attractive small shops and excellent
restaurants, whilst evening entertainment includes the
temptations of the Nevada casinos and hotels with their
star-studded floor shows a few miles along the shore.
Adequate accommodation for families is crucial for
enjoyment, and Skylake Club's premises were deliberately
chosen to provide comfort for 8 adults, giving generous
room for large families as well as adult groups. Located
on a development called Lake
Forest
Glen, it is of course fully furnished and fitted with
washing machine, dryer, dishwasher etc. The house has
four bedrooms currently set out as three king or queen
size doubles (one downstairs), and a large "dormitory"
with two singles and two pairs of bunks, ideal for
groups with children. A full bathroom upstairs and a
shower and toilet downstairs are served by a double hot
water system. Also upstairs is a large storage space for
owners personal belongings - ski wear, sports equipment
etc.
Downstairs is a large living room with a stone
fireplace, and ample storage space. TV, video, hi-fi,
phone and fax are of course part of the basic equipment.
Outside is a sunny deck with barbecue facilities. The
house position in a quiet cul-de-sac ensures both
security and privacy and is very close to the common
recreational facilities, and only a few minutes walk
along tree-lined residential roads from the sandy beach,
a mile from the attractive township of Tahoe City.
Included with the house are the use of two swimming
pools - an "adults only" pool with a sauna and a hot
whirlpool "Jacuzzi", and an attended family pool, four
tennis courts and a separate children's playground. The
property is provided with automatic structural
maintenance by the Homeowners Association which also
maintains the grounds and recreational facilities, and
the interior has been completely redecorated within the
last year.
